Kwena Mahlakoana
The Director
Mr Kwena Mahlakoana (Kwena) has worked at the Competition Commission South Africa (“Commission”) in various positions for more than 10 years. During his tenure at the Commission, he worked at Mergers and Acquisitions Division where he investigated and analysed large and intermediate mergers as well as representing the Commission at the Competition Tribunal on whether large merger should be approved or not.
He later moved to Market Conduct Division and his main responsibilities were to investigate market abuse cases and prosecute same before the Tribunal representing the Commission. He subsequently joined Cartels Division and his responsibilities were to investigate cartels cases and represented the Commission to prosecute same at the Tribunal.
Kwena started his articles of clerkship at the Public Defender’s Office in Johannesburg and was admitted as an attorney of the High Court on 29 July 1999. Kwena has previously worked for KD Maimane Attorneys in Bryanston as well as Road Accident Fund. At KD Maimane Attorneys, he was involved in Labour Litigation, Personal Injury Claims, Civil and Criminal Litigation. He left Road Accident Fund in 2006 to join the Commission.
